How True North Budgeting works
A private, offline desktop app designed to help your money make sense. No bank connections. No subscriptions. Just clarity.
Four steps to clarity
True North Budgeting is not complicated. Here is how it works from the moment you open it.
Add your income and set your pay period
Enter your take-home pay and configure your pay schedule - monthly, semi-monthly, or bi-weekly. This tells True North how to group your expenses so your budget matches when you actually get paid.
Categorize your expenses using 50/30/20
Add your recurring expenses and categorize each as Needs, Wants, Debt, or Investing. The 50/30/20 framework gives you a target: 50% needs, 30% wants, 20% savings. Set savings goals to pay yourself first.
See the full picture on your dashboard
Your dashboard shows expenses grouped by pay period, a 12-month forecast to spot cash crunches, and what remains. The calendar view shows color-coded events you can click to edit directly.
Brief check-ins to stay on track
Mark expenses as paid, update goal contributions, and review anything flagged as stale. A few minutes a week keeps your budget accurate and your mind at ease.
